Privacy Policy

Minivid compresses video on your device. This policy sets out what data leaves that device, and what that data is.

It is deliberately short: if it took pages to explain, the design would be wrong.

The short version

Your videos never leave your phone. Minivid has no server to receive them, and no account system.

Two things are sent off the device: purchase data, so the app knows whether you have Pro, and anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off. The sections below cover both.

Videos and photos

Minivid asks for photo library access so you can pick a video to compress, so the result can be saved back to your library if you want it there, and so the Latest video widget can show your newest video.

That permission is used for those things only. Every video is read, compressed and written on your device, using the operating system's hardware encoder. The widget reads your library on the device too, and never uploads anything.

Your original is never modified. It is deleted only if you choose Replace original and confirm the deletion in the iOS prompt; it then sits in Recently Deleted for 30 days. Minivid does not read, transmit or retain video content anywhere but your own device.

What does leave the device

Minivid uses RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. On launch and on purchase, the RevenueCat SDK sends the following to RevenueCat's servers:

  • An anonymous app user ID that RevenueCat generates. It is not your name, email or account — the app has no account system to tie it to.
  • The device identifier Apple provides to developers (the identifier for vendor).
  • Purchase history: which plan you bought and whether it is still active.

This data serves one purpose: working out whether you are entitled to Pro features. It is not linked to your identity and is not used for advertising or tracking.

Payment itself is handled by Apple. Minivid never sees your card details.

Anonymous usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase)

Since version 1.5.1, Minivid uses Google Analytics for Firebase to learn which tools are used and where people get stuck, so it can be improved. Google processes this data on our behalf as a service provider.

What is collected:

  • App interactions: which screens are opened and which features are used — for example that a video was compressed with the Email preset, roughly how much smaller it got (as a range such as 10–25%), that something was shared or a cleanup finished
  • Onboarding, paywall and purchase steps, such as which plan was chosen
  • Coarse device and app information: device model, iOS version, app version, language, and the country or region Google derives from the connection
  • An app-instance ID that Firebase generates for this installation, plus whether you have Pro

What is never collected:

  • Your videos, photos, screenshots or their contents, file names, paths or exact sizes
  • Anything you type, such as watermark text
  • Precise location or coordinates, contacts, your name or email
  • The advertising identifier (IDFA): Minivid is built without it, never asks to track you, and does not use this data for advertising or share it with data brokers

Google Analytics keeps this event data for 2 months (its default retention) and then deletes it. It is not linked to your identity.

You can turn this off at any time in Minivid: Settings › Privacy › "Share anonymous usage statistics". From then on nothing more is sent.

Google's own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

What is never collected

  • Video content, frame thumbnails or video metadata
  • Name, email address, phone number, contacts
  • Precise location
  • The advertising identifier (IDFA), or any data used for advertising or cross-app tracking

Minivid embeds no advertising SDK. The only analytics SDK is Google Analytics for Firebase, described above, and you can switch it off. If that ever changes, this policy and the App Store privacy label will be updated before that build ships.

Data kept on your device

Your compression history and settings are stored in the app's private storage on the device itself. They are not synced anywhere.

Deleting the app deletes all of it.

Children

Minivid is rated 4+ and has no user-generated content and no in-app browser. It does not knowingly collect data from children.

Your choices

Because there is no account, there is no personal profile on our side for you to access or erase.

If you want the anonymous user ID held by RevenueCat deleted, email me and I will take care of it.

To stop sending usage statistics, turn off "Share anonymous usage statistics" in Minivid's Settings. To have statistics already sent deleted, email me; Google Analytics data is not tied to your name, so tell me roughly when you used the app.

Manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store account settings.

Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Anything materially different will be called out in the App Store release notes.
